Exhibition charts Black social and political movements in the UK - 2.10.2006
Social Oligation is the politically charged exhibition of images taken by the photographer Thabo Jaiyesimi.
His work documents the social condition in the past and in today's Black communities in the UK. The exhibit will feature captured moments of those present at the Stephen Lawrence inquiry in 1998 and of the movements of the Nation of Islam.
The exhibition will run from October 6 to November 24. It will be held at the 198 Gallery, 198 Railton Road, SE24 0LU.

T4 Chancers is back for new UK blood - apply now! - 17.7.2006
THE SERIES that followed young musicians from the UK trying to crack America returns.
Eight Chancers for this year's series will be put in the reputable hands of Beyonce Knowles's father, Mathew Knowles. This time around competitors will also be supported and guided by John Legend, Mario, Lemar, Lyfe and DMX who will provide vital masterclasses to develop their skills and talent.
The eye on the prize: "The Chancers will be battling it out for an unbelievable opportunity - a contract with Sony BMG and Music World Entertainment and the chance to support Beyonce on tour."
The Chancers chosen will fly out to Houston where they will be put through Mathew Knowles’s "urban Bootcamp", the place where he hones the talents of all his artists. The Chancers vocal skills, fitness, image and ambition will be pushed and tested to the absolute limit.
Entry Details:
* Applicants must be aged between 16-26
* Be available between the dates of Friday 1st September– Monday 2nd October (for the entire period)
* Have a current passport valid for travel up to 6 months from September 1st
* Have no previous or pending convictions

Audition to be a blagger! - 4.7.2006
THE SEARCH is on for young actors to create the funniest improvisation show ever in East London.
Aarawak Moon Productions & Theatre Royal Stratford East will be holding Junior Blaggers auditions on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July 2006.

Renowned writer and critic talks culture and politics - 12.6.2006
GREG Tate regarded as one of the legendary writers in hiphop journalism in the 80s will discuss his work Why My Blood Runs Cold: Contemporary Black Visual Culture and the Crisis of the Hoodoo Intellectual.
The writer who has published works in The Village Voice, New York Times, Vibe and others will examine contemporary Black Visual Culture and consider whether African-American visual art is the last place where ideas matter in contemporary black discourse.
The session as part of Black: Creativity Works is run by B3 Media (beats, bytes and the big screen), an organisation encouraging the work of multi-ethnic filmmakers and digital artists.
The talk will be held at the ICA (Institute for Contemporary Arts), The Mall, London, SW1Y 5AH on Saturday, June 17 at 5pm.

Annual festival strikes East End - 15.5.2006
URBAN East 2006 returns later this week for nights of UK hiphop, R&B, dance and seminars.
From May 18 to May 25 expect to see performances from the gritty dance production Sketchy and UK artists Klashnekoff, Baby Blue, J2K, Pyrelli, Paris One, Soundbwoy Ents, Young Blood Militia amongst others.
There will be two free forums including a G-Hop Artists' forum for those who want to network with other vocalists, MCs and producers followed by an open panel discussion.

Ivanhoe will rage on at theatre - 14.5.2006
THE CHANCE to watch the hit play The Harder They Come has been extended to June.
Based on the 1972 film classic it tells the story of Ivanhoe, a Jamaican young man from the countryside who's seeking fame in Kingston through his music. He is soon exploited and seeks revenge.
The show will continue to run until June 10, 2006.
